Streetlight Manifesto (Catch 23) Takes Hiatus; Creates 3rd Identical Band
Alternative Press has reported that “Ska/pop outfit Streetlight Manifesto announced that after their upcoming tour, the band will put the band on hold,” further noting that they, “have nothing planned until at least the Summer of 2010, so if you’ve ever wanted to see us live, or want to see us live before mid 2010, come out to one of the upcoming shows!”
I don’t know where to start. I’m going to let the “ska” label go; too easy. Their tour runs through October, and they’ll be off through mid 2010 and it hardly constitutes a hiatus. The Bosstones taking years off—leaving and returning to sold out shows—is a hiatus. If you’re going to sit on your ass an do nothing for 6 months, pretend you’re “writing” or “in the studio.”
Let’s talk about how pretentious one has to be to even consider putting out a tour press release followed by a break called a hiatus that your fans will care so much about. It’s the same pretension that comes along with starting a band like Streetlight Manifesto. Allow me to summarize:
- Be in a hardworking and unique band called Catch 22
- Quit or be thrown out of said band
- Start a band that sounds exactly like that first band
- Go so far as to re-record a Catch 22 album.
Move on guys. It’s time.
